Alzheimer’s Walk on 10/20 at Pierce College!

October 20, 2024!

Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s disease care, support and research. We walk for future generations so they may never know the devastation of this disease. We all have a reason to end Alzheimer’s and help put a stop to the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death.

For those of you that may not know… In 1994, Jimmy’s father, James Delaney Buffett, Jr. was stricken with Alzheimer’s disease and passed away at age 83 in May of 2003, several years after being diagnosed.

Just a couple of quick facts from the Alzheimer’s Association…

  • ALZHEIMER’S IS THE ONLY DISEASE AMONG THE TOP 10 CAUSES OF DEATH IN AMERICA THAT CANNOT BE PREVENTED, CURED OR EVEN SLOWED.
  • MORE THAN 5 MILLION AMERICANS ARE LIVING WITH ALZHEIMER’S AND 16 MILLION PEOPLE ARE SERVING AS THEIR CAREGIVERS.
  • NEARLY 13 MILLION AMERICAN WOMEN ARE EITHER LIVING WITH ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE OR CARING FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS IT.
  • EVERY 65 SECONDS SOMEONE IN THE UNITED STATES DEVELOPS ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE.

April is National Canine Fitness Month and we will be collecting items for either Operation Blankets of Love or Skid Rover (or maybe both if we get enought items!) We are looking for:

  • Dog/Cat Food & Treats
  • Pet Beds
  • Collars, Leashes & Harnesses
  • Crates & Carriers
  • Toys
  • Cat Litter
  • Flea + Tick Medication
  • Blankets (fleece, lightweight) – ALL SIZES
  • Towels
    (NO PILLOWS, COMFORTERS, or BED SHEETS!!)

There is no entry free – but there will be a charity raffle and a white elephant gift exchange. Gifts exchanges are generally tropical style gifts or booze. Use your imagination and have fun with it!

Marnie & Jim have lovingly used Parrotthead and Tropical theme goods that can’t move with them. Deco, memorabilia, tableware, pool stuff. Some never used and in original packaging. All proceeds from Trop Rock Yard Sale goes directly to Michael J. Fox Foundation. Feel free to bring pre-priced items to add to the yard sale for the charity. Please bring CASH, if possible.
